Dr Melanie Sammut studied at St. Catherine’s High School and pursued her studies at St. Aloysius College Sixth Form in 2012. She graduated from the University of Malta in 2016 with a Bachelors of Law (Honours), where she furthered her studies and was awarded a Masters of Advocacy. Consequently, she was admitted to the Bar Association of Malta and was awarded her warrant to practice law before the Courts of Malta.

During her legal studies at the University of Malta, Melanie undertook a traineeship with a private law firm specialising in civil litigation and was later engaged as an Associate within the same law firm in 2017. During her four years of practice with the firm, she specifically focused her practice on civil law specialising in legal drafting and areas of law including old and new rent laws, property law, succession law and contract law. In addition, Dr Melanie Sammut has also acted as an advisor to public and government entities, where her main areas of practice involved Government and Church property and their respective legislation.

In 2020, Dr Melanie Sammut was engaged as an Assistant Director (Legal Services) within the Planning Authority, the regulatory authority in relation to development planning. Her role involved in directing the Legal Office within the Planning Authority whilst representing the Authority before Administrative Tribunals and Courts of Law. Dr Melanie Sammut provided internal advice and assistance whilst drafting planning legislation.

Since 2023, Dr Melanie Sammut set up her own legal practice as a sole practitioner founding her firm bearing her name and its initials, representing her vision, that is, the simplicity of enthusiasm and dedication. This goes in line with the philosophy “choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”.
